today I would like to share with you how to recursively change the ownership of a directory in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Obviously this also works in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Debian 7 and others. Btw. “recursively” means the folder and everything what’s inside (files, sub directories etc..)…
it’s fairly easy – assuming you want to do recursive change of ownership of folder /tmp/mydirectory to user “root” within group “root”:
chown -R root:root /tmp/mydirectory
